Serving the GTA’s
Black-identifying Community

Primary Care

Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness in a comfortable community setting.

Comprehensive
Primary Care

TAIBU’s holistic approach to care includes the diagnosis and management of illness and chronic diseases, especially those most common among members of the GTA’s Black community

TAIBU’s multidisciplinary healthcare team supports members of the Black-identifying community to manage day-to-day health concerns, coordinating specialist care as required.

Primary Care Programs

Social factors such as racism, poverty, discrimination and systemic oppression combined with issues related to housing, education & employment affect access to care for overall health & wellbeing.

TAIBU’s care team members deliver customized programs and services in a culturally affirming Africentric environment to support the GTA’s Black community.

Systemic racism and other social challenges take a toll over time. Social Workers and Therapists use an anti-oppressive framework, combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and the Recovery Model of Care approach.

The program supports those who have suffered trauma and those facing depression, anxiety and other stressors related to marginalization at home, at work and in the community.

Adults in Scarborough and across the GTA who are enrolled in select public health programs, as well as eligible children 0-17 years of age and seniors over 65, can access dental care for better oral health at lower cost or free of charge.
This program is offered in partnership with Toronto Public Health.
The Back2Life program’s Chiropractor and Kinesiologist assess, manage and treat back pain issues experienced by members of the Black community.

Complementary massage therapy is also available.

Sickle cell disease is an inherited genetic disorder affecting red blood cells. Although the condition affects all races, it is most common among members of the Black community.

Adults living with Sickle Cell Disease and their caregivers from throughout the GTA are invited to learn from TAIBU’s health professionals how to prevent health emergencies and hospitalization.

Systemic racism means marginalized populations often do not access services that prevent illness. TAIBU’s model of care prioritizes engagement and education regarding screening for under-served and under-screened populations in a culturally safe environment.
Virtual medical appointments overcome barriers to access so that clients can connect virtually with healthcare providers from their home community.

Using a secure confidential Ontario Telehealth Network (OTN) system, TAIBU’s Telemedicine Nurse Coordinator assists clients so they can attend follow-up appointments with participating specialists over a secure and confidential teleconference system.
