TAIBU Community Health Centre Wins 4-Year Accreditation
TAIBU Community Health Centre is thrilled to announce its four-year accreditation by the Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA). This accreditation continues to mark a significant milestone in TAIBU’s commitment to providing high-quality, community-focused health and wellness services for Black communities in the Greater Toronto Area including Francophones and the residents of the Malvern neighbourhood. It underscores TAIBU’s dedication to excellence and highlights its ongoing work to serve its clients and stakeholders better.
TAIBU’s mission to offer responsive, accessible, and effective services that reflect the needs of the communities it serves drove its decision to pursue CCA accreditation. Through rigorous preparation and evaluation, TAIBU met CCA’s standards for excellence. CCA reviews organizations based on quality, safety, accountability, and best practices in community health services.
“Founded on the vision of our founding members to establish TAIBU as a centre of excellence, this fourth successful accreditation underscores our ongoing commitment to accountability and to delivering culturally affirming, high-quality programs and services,” says Karen Richards, Chair of TAIBU’s Board of Directors. “The accreditation process thoroughly evaluated all aspects of TAIBU’s operations, including governance, human resources, programs and services, health and safety, and community health policies and practices, meeting over 300 indicators. This is a proud moment for the entire TAIBU family.”
The Accreditation has allowed TAIBU to enhance its offerings and strengthen its impact, benefiting community members and partners. TAIBU’s recent accreditation is aligned to the principle it upholds, Ujima- a Swahili word for Collective Responsibility- as it reflects the collective dedication and shared commitment of the entire team of Board, staff and volunteers in providing a high-quality and culturally affirming care and support to the Black communities. The process encouraged improvements in program delivery, governance, and client safety—all of which contribute to more tailored and effective care. As a CCA-accredited organization, TAIBU is equipped to provide sustainable, high-quality programs that meet the evolving needs of its community.
“TAIBU continues on its journey of growth, learning, and adaptability in serving the Black communities and improving their health and wellbeing. The accreditation process, as much as it requires a significant amount of preparation, is a moment for reflection and identifying areas for improvement”, says Liben Gebremikael, Chief Executive Officer. “It is also a process that clearly demonstrates the hard work, dedication and passion the Board, staff and volunteers exert on a daily basis. As we celebrate our successful accreditation we say THANK YOU to the Board, staff and our enthusiastic volunteers”.
One of the key benefits of participating in CCA’s accreditation program is that it promotes an ongoing culture of learning and quality improvement throughout the organization. In 2012, the Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA) was formed through the joint initiative of other associations of community service providers, bringing together over 100 years of accreditation experience.
TAIBU Community Health Centre is dedicated to providing comprehensive, accessible, culturally relevant health and social services to Black communities across Greater Toronto and Malvern areas. Rooted in Afrocentric principles and values of equity, TAIBU delivers health and wellness programs that foster well-being and resilience. About the Canadian Centre for Accreditation (CCA):
In response to growing interest in a Canadian accreditation program tailored to community-based health and social services, five associations of community service providers came together to form the Canadian Centre for Accreditation. CCA is a national non-profit offering bilingual accreditation geared to community-based health and social service organizations. CCA accredits a wide range of community-based human service organizations with a modular, tailored program that promotes excellence and quality. Because its approach is rooted in community service values and contexts, CCA accreditation supports community organizations to meet value-added goals that go beyond achieving accreditation.
