we can do to empower our community
AWARENESS
Diseases don’t discriminate, but people do. Be aware of how health inequities within our communities like anti-Black racism, poverty, mental health, chronic illnesses or limited access to health services can make existing daily challenges worse during COVID-19.
RESPONSIBILITY
The best thing you can do to prevent this virus is to stay at home as much as you can, eat healthy foods, wash your hands often, make time to exercise and limit your contact with others. When you must have contact, keep your distance and wear a mask. It is not impolite during this situation.
KNOWLEDGE
A lot of false information is circulating on social media. Only follow and share info and advice from credible sources. Discourage others from believing and spreading false information. Everyone, regardless of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability and any other identity, is at risk for COVID-19.
COMMUNITY
Our community is strong and if you need support don’t be afraid to rely on each other for help. There are many groups already working to support individuals and families who have self-quarantined or are vulnerable to infection. Start, join or become a positive part of a local online group. Volunteer with a community organization. Donate to a local food bank.
CONNECT
As we continue to social distance in many places during #COVID19, let’s come #TAIBUtogether in digital spaces too. It’s important to find new ways to stay connected and check in on each other for our physical and mental well being.
KINDNESS
Be kind, in everything that you do. Remember that we are all facing the challenges of COVID-19 and that we all need to be treated with kindness now more than ever.
